Its impossible to be close and not make the trip down to Tombstone, AZ. What a great piece of history. A perfect little town with gunfights in the street, all the towns folk are dressed up in the old 1800's style. It really does feel like you time travelled. Well, if you can get past the fact that the place is full of other tourist just like yourself... For being so close to the mexico border (something like 20 miles) and farther south than phoenix, it was actually cooler at tombstone because of the altitude. I think the pictures explain it the best...
